SigmaPlot 15.1 Update Release: What’s new and how to download

    SigmaPlot 15.1 Update banner

SigmaPlot is a scientific data analysis and graphing software that helps you create high-quality graphs and perform statistical tests. SigmaPlot 15.1 is the latest update release that fixes some issues and adds some new features to the software. In this article, we will review the main changes and improvements in SigmaPlot 15.1 and show you how to download and install the patch.

List of new features and improvements

    • Fixed Wrong License Manager error.
Some users reported getting a wrong license manager error when trying to activate or run SigmaPlot 15. This issue has been fixed in SigmaPlot 15.1.
    • The About screen was updated to include the proper dates and tools.
    • Added new functionality to For Loops in the transform language. The old behaviour was non-standard, but the user can change back to it with an ini file change.
The transform language is a powerful tool that allows you to manipulate data and create custom calculations. In SigmaPlot 15.1, the For Loops syntax has been improved to be more standard and intuitive. You can now use For Loops to iterate over arrays, ranges, or lists of values.
    • A help topic and button were added for the Heat Map macro.
The Heat Map macro is a useful tool that allows you to create a heat map from a matrix of data. A heat map is a graphical representation of data where the values are represented by colours. You can use the Heat Map macro to visualize patterns or trends in your data. In SigmaPlot 15.1, you can access the Heat Map macro from the Macro tab on the ribbon, and you can also find a help topic that explains how to use it.
    • Modified the Help entry for the Ribbon Configuration menus as we moved them to the Quick Access Toolbar.
The Ribbon Configuration menus allow you to customize the ribbon tabs and groups according to your preferences. In SigmaPlot 15.1, these menus have been moved from the File tab to the Quick Access Toolbar for easier access. You can find updated instructions on how to use them in the Help entry.
    • Added the Statistics Graphs to the Create Graph ribbon tab and added Help for this.
The Statistics Graphs are a set of predefined graphs that help you perform common statistical analyses and tests on your data. You can choose from graphs such as box plots, scatter plots, histograms, normal probability plots, etc. In SigmaPlot 15.1, you can access these graphs from the Create Graph tab on the ribbon, and you can also find a help topic that explains how to use them.
    • Add help for the new feature for SPW 15 of being able to save result graph data with reports.
In SigmaPlot 15, a new feature was introduced that allows you to save result graph data with reports. This means that you can save the data used to create a result graph along with the report file, so that you can easily recreate or modify the graph later. In SigmaPlot 15.1, you can find a help topic that explains how to use this feature.
    • Improved the User’s Guide (PDF).
    • Modified the SigmaPlot Macro Sample File, which added a button for the Parametric and Polar Plot Equation macro into the Macro tab on the ribbon.
The Parametric and Polar Plot Equation macro is a handy tool that allows you to create parametric or polar plots from equations. A parametric plot is a plot where both x and y coordinates are functions of a parameter t. A polar plot is a plot where x and y coordinates are functions of an angle theta. You can use this macro to create curves or shapes that are not easily plotted with Cartesian coordinates. In SigmaPlot 15.1, you can access this macro from the Macro tab on the ribbon, where a button has been added for it.
    • Added several improvements for graph export:
Added dithering to 256 Color and grayscale images
Dithering is a technique that creates the illusion of more colours or shades by mixing pixels of different colours. This can improve the appearance of images that have a limited colour palette, such as 256 Color or grayscale images. In SigmaPlot 15.1, dithering has been added to these image formats to make the colour transition across the bitmap smoother and less pixelated.
Added CMYK TIFF files for 24-bit color.
CMYK is a colour model that is commonly used for printing purposes. It stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Key (black), which are the four primary colours of ink used in printers. In SigmaPlot 15.1, you can save your graphs as CMYK TIFF files for 24-bit colour, which can ensure that the colours of your graphs match the colours of your printed output.
Improved the basis for the available memory warning when exporting bitmaps.
When exporting bitmaps, you may encounter a warning message that says that there is not enough available memory to export the graph. This message is based on an estimate of how much memory is needed to export the graph, which may not be accurate depending on the actual memory usage of the application. In SigmaPlot 15.1, this estimate has been improved to depend on the actual memory currently used by the application, which can reduce the occurrence of false warnings.
Improved the speed of updating the preview control when changing colour depth.
The preview control is a window that shows you how your graph will look when exported as an image file. You can use this window to adjust the settings and options for graph export, such as colour depth, resolution, size, etc. In SigmaPlot 15.1, the speed of updating the preview control when changing colour depth has been significantly improved, which can make the graph export process faster and smoother.
    • Added a proper icon for the Column Means statistics graph
The Column Means statistics graph is a type of graph that shows the mean values of each column in a worksheet. It can be useful for comparing different groups or categories of data. In SigmaPlot 15.1, a proper icon has been added for this graph in the Statistics Graphs menu and in the Graph Properties dialogue box.
    • Improved the splash screen to use the proper year
    • Fixed a crash opening older files
Some users reported experiencing a crash when trying to open older files (such as SPW 14 or earlier) in SigmaPlot 15. This issue has been fixed in SigmaPlot 15.1, and you should be able to open older files without any problems.
    • Fixed a crash with saving report graph data with the notebook
SigmaPlot 15 introduced a new feature that allows you to save result graph data with reports. However, some users reported experiencing a crash when trying to save report graph data with the notebook (a file format that contains both worksheets and graphs). This issue has been fixed in SigmaPlot 15.1, and you should be able to save report graph data with the notebook without any problems.
